Samuel De Maré

Samuel De Maré (born December 31, 1990, Turnhout, Belgium) is a contemporary painter based in Antwerp whose work moves between the familiar and the uncanny. He creates imaginative and introspective oil paintings in which solitary or faceless figures perform small everyday gestures inside spaces that feel both lived in and dreamlike. His scenes echo the calm structure of classical painting while introducing a quiet strangeness that reflects the emotional uncertainty woven into ordinary life.

De Maré began his artistic journey with one year of Illustration at Sint Lucas Antwerp, followed by two years of Painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. After leaving the academy, most of his artistic development came through returning regularly to Studio Escalier in France. There he spent several years studying off and on in intensive programs, focusing on drawing and painting from life, and traditional techniques.

His work has continued to grow through a steady rhythm of exhibitions, collaborations, and personal explorations. Each new project forms part of an ongoing search for images that hold silence, vulnerability, and the quiet strangeness found in everyday moments.

Samuel De Maré lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium.
