Description
Tomás Carlos Ortolani
Tomás Carlos Ortolani is an Argentine artist, born in Mar del Plata in 1992. His affinity with the arts began, as with many artists, at an early age. Despite his relatively short career, his work is already held in private collections in Argentina, as well as in London, Spain, and Canada.
In his painting practice, he has developed a body of work with a realistic approach, occasionally infused with surrealist elements. His themes often explore the connections we maintain with others and how these relationships are shaped by our upbringing and childhood environments – ultimately defining not only who we are but also how we perceive others.
For Tomás, painting is not merely a profession, but a way of life; and art, the subjective lens through which we choose to see the world.
Eclipsed
The dilemma between what one wants and what one needs. Sometimes the line is blurred. Sometimes it’s all one and the same, as it always resides within me. I wish we could transcend this dichotomy in joy, without suffering – but that wouldn’t be our nature. The darkest days have passed, leaving me with many lessons to learn. I hope this short work captures that subtle swing between what feels urgent and what darker desires demand of us – in a playful and cynical way.
