Description
Samuel De Maré
Samuel De Maré (b. December 31, 1990, Turnhout, Belgium) is a contemporary painter based in Antwerp, focused on imaginative and introspective oil paintings that explore the boundaries between the real and the surreal. His work often portrays faceless or isolated figures engaged in mundane tasks, set within dreamlike environments that reflect their internal states. These compositions echo the setting of classical painting while incorporating elements of absurdity and ambiguity, offering a poignant commentary on the human condition.
De Maré’s artistic journey began with studies in Illustration at Sint Lucas in Antwerp, followed by Painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. Seeking to deepen his technical skills, he attended intensive programs at Studio Escalier in France, where he honed his observational techniques and oil painting methods under the guidance of mentors like Michelle Tully, Timothy Stotz, David Baird, and Tobias Hall.
De Maré’s paintings have been exhibited in various galleries in Belgium and abroad. He currently lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium.
