Maxim Thaanau

Maxim Thaanau was born in 2003 in Riga, Latvia, and
now lives and works in Vienna, Austria. Since the age of 14 he has
been fascinated by classical painting, studying the techniques of
masters past and present. During the last eight years, the artist has
been developing his skills independently, in 2021-2023 he tried to
enter art academies in Germany and Austria, but was repeatedly
rejected. In 2024, he took his first painting lessons at an atelier
mentored by artist Patrick Byrnes in Paris. In February 2025, the
painting “Blue Shirt” became his first work to be presented in a large
art space: the jury of the Salon des Artistes Français selected it for
an exhibition in Grand Palais in Paris, France. In April 2025 he held
his first solo exhibition “L’Amour Cathartique” at the Gallery Maxime
D., 4 rue des Guillemites 75004, in Paris, France.
