Description
Linda Delahaye (b. 1980, Canada) lives and works in Paris, France.
Linda is a painter whose work explores the emotional and symbolic depths of the human experience. Known for her representational style, she blends intimacy, sensuality, and narrative to create evocative portraits that balance the real and the imagined.
Linda’s current series draws inspiration from Greek mythology, reimagining classical tales through a contemporary lens. These narrative paintings explore themes of vulnerability, identity, and the mythic forces that shape us. With each piece, she invites viewers into a timeless dialogue between past and present, myth and memory.
Her subjects – whether drawn from life or legend – are portrayed with empathy and nuance. Staged like performers on a set, they embody both personal and archetypal stories, offering a quiet space for reflection and emotional resonance.
Linda views art as a form of conversation – an exchange of soul, story, and presence. Her work is held in private collections across Canada, the United States, the UK, France, Germany, and Australia.
Artist Statement:
Guarding the Dragon delves into identity, balance, and the interplay of cultural and personal exploration. Set against a backdrop of the Western fascination with imperialist Eastern aesthetics, the young Chinese man in royal yellow sits on the floor, a space of introspection and humility. Surrounding him are porcelain Foo dogs embodying the yin and yang of masculine and feminine energies. He cradles a porcelain dragon gazing toward his hand, an emblem of the journey of self-discovery and the reconciliation of dualities within us. This piece strikes a balance between the beauty of tradition and gender, and modern discourse on identity.
